Inside Indiana Dunes National Park
When planning a visit to America’s national parks, Indiana is not usually the first state that comes to mind. Most people, if asked to name a national park in Indiana, would pause. Some would guess incorrectly. The existence of Indiana Dunes National Park — on the southern shore of Lake Michigan, about 50 miles from downtown Chicago — genuinely surprises people, and that surprise is worth examining because it says something about how we think about what a national park is supposed to be.
